My first pet portrait commission, featuring the lovely Penny Lane. This piece is acrylic on canvas, and 18 by 14 inches.
Watching the Sun Rise
This painting was inspired by the morning light that streams through my living room window. In this piece I especially love the contrast between the cool light from the window, and the warm light from the room behind the figure. Watching the Sun Rise is part of the current show at the David Adler Music and Arts Center, and will be up for two more weeks.

Group Show at the David Adler Music and Art Center
Thursday, February 5th, from 7-9pm, is the opening reception for a group show at the David Adler Music and Art Center. I’ll have five paintings, including three new pieces which have never been exhibited before. Below is one of the new pieces, Come With Me. This piece was one of three winners in the January Lake County Art League member’s competition.

Yoga Paintings
Over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of showing artwork at Blue Sky Yoga Studio in Libertyville, Illinois. I’ve long thought that I needed some yoga paintings to fit in with the atmosphere there. Then this past Thursday, my husband’s school district had a snow day and he found himself at home without anything more important to do, so he ended up as my yoga model. I did a series of fast, small paintings; trying to work quickly so I could finish before his muscles gave out. These will be debuting at Blue Sky next Thursday. Because of the metallic paints, these photographs don’t really capture how these paintings look, so if you’re in the Libertyville area stop by and see them in person! All three are available for purchase, and prints can be purchased at Fine Art America.

Vintage Photography Portraits
Leading up to Christmas, I usually do a lot of portrait commissions. This year I had a client who was willing to experiment with hers. I’ve always loved vintage photographs, and so for these I tried to approximate the color of a vintage photograph, but with some variation in the warms and cools of the color. I’m really excited about how they turned out. I’m updating the custom portraits page to include these, and hoping I’ll have the chance to do many more in the future.

This is my little guy playing at the beach this summer. His joy in the water is just incredible. It may be impossible to fully capture, but I keep trying. Prints of this piece are available at Fine Art America.

Bell Tower at the Botanic Gardens in Autumn
I painted this in mid Autumn on site at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. I was high on a hill-actually the same hill I painted the Japanese Bridge from, but facing the other direction. It was an absolutely beautiful day; this time of year every day painting outside is particularly wonderful, because I never know which day will be the last before it is too cold. Lake County Art League Member’s Show

Waterfall at Chicago Botanic Gardens
I painted this on location at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. When I got there I was a little disappointed because the day was overcast, but I started painting anyway. It was absolutely wonderful when the sun broke through the clouds right as I was finishing up, and I was able to add in the effect of the light on the falling water.
