I painted this for a Noah’s Ark themed nursery that my future niece or nephew will be living in. It’s acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20. Unfortunately the picture of this is pretty bad…the colors at the bottom are rainbow colored confetti from the Noah’s Ark themed baby shower. I was having too much fun to take the time to get a good picture.

Lake County Art League Show

I dropped this off at the Benny Center in Waukegan this past weekend for the Lake County Art League semi-annual members show. I saw some amazing work there before I left, so be sure to stop by and check it out! The show is up through November 17th.

This piece is oil in canvas. I finished it just in time (the edges are even a little wet, thankfully no one noticed). I was sort of envisioning (empathizing with?) Robert Frost at the beginning of his career, before he figured out which road to take. I’m calling it Unable to Make a Decision. Since the large picture doesn’t really show the visceral quality of the paint, the small picture on the right is a detail shot of the top middle in the top.

This is acrylic on canvas, 22 x 30. Believe it or not, this piece started out as a painting of different shades of white…and then different shades of black…and then it just took on a life of its own.

Genesis 1:1

This piece is inspired by a book I read recently, God According to God: A Physicist Proves We’ve Been Wrong About God All Along by Gerald Schroeder. Among other things, he explains that the correct translation of Genesis 1:1 in the original Hebrew is “With wisdom, God created the heavens and the earth,” rather than “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” He says that this change-that wisdom (or information, or “mind”) is underlying all creation at the subatomic level-is what physicists have discovered independently of religion in the past century. This painting doesn’t even begins to capture how mind-blowing the concepts in the book are. I’m not sure how to draw a picture of divine wisdom interwoven into the fabric of the universe.

The text of that verse is in the painting, but is more visible in person. This painting is acrylic, dried flowers, and pastel on canvas, 18 x 24.
